Article 17: Types of Meridian Weight Loss – Cupping, Massage, Magnetism, Acupuncture, Moxibustion
Types of Meridian Weight Loss
Many people have heard of meridian weight loss, but don't really understand it. There are many types of meridian weight loss methods, such as meridian cupping, meridian massage, magnetic meridian weight loss, acupuncture meridian weight loss, moxibustion meridian weight loss, acupuncture point embedding weight loss, using Wang Bu Liu Xing seeds to target acupoints on the ear for weight loss, fire therapy, umbilical therapy, and so on.
Below, we will focus on introducing several meridian-based weight loss methods:
Meridian cupping for weight loss
Cupping is a method that uses cups as tools, employing heat to expel air and create negative pressure, causing them to adhere to the skin. The strong suction during cupping opens the skin's pores, stimulating and enhancing the function of sweat and sebaceous glands. This accelerates the elimination of toxins and waste from the body, ultimately achieving the effects of unblocking meridians, promoting blood circulation, reducing swelling and pain, and balancing Yin and Yang. This method is frequently used for treating illnesses and maintaining health, but many people are unaware that cupping can also promote metabolism and achieve weight loss. Most remarkably, cupping for weight loss can target specific acupoints and meridians to eliminate localized fat, achieving the amazing effect of "losing weight wherever you want."
While cupping can be effective for weight loss, it's not suitable for everyone. Those with very weak constitutions should avoid cupping, as the purging method involved can exacerbate their weakness. During cupping, the skin tightens under negative pressure, causing pain and stimulation throughout the body. This stimulation may trigger a heart attack in people with heart conditions, making cupping unsuitable for weight loss. Additionally, people with skin diseases and young teenagers should also avoid cupping for weight loss.
Meridian massage for weight loss
Massage for weight loss works by massaging along meridians, making fat soft and easier to burn. If you regularly perform meridian massages, you can see very noticeable results in breaking down the "spare tire" around your waist that accumulates due to lack of exercise.
Massage for weight loss has a wider range of applications than cupping. However, it's important to note that massage is not suitable for those who are unwell, have a cold or fever, are intoxicated, or are menstruating. Additionally, obese individuals with internal organ diseases, malignant tumors, infectious or purulent diseases should also avoid massage for weight loss.
Many people think that massage for weight loss is very simple, but it is a big mistake to massage yourself without understanding meridians and acupoints. The human body's meridians and acupoints have their own specific rules, and haphazard massage or incorrect techniques can even lead to lymphatic reflux, seriously endangering health.
Magnet Meridian Weight Loss
Compared to cupping and massage for weight loss, many people may be less familiar with magnetic meridian weight loss. Actually, magnetic meridian weight loss has been popular for a long time, and there's a story behind it:
During Emperor Qianlong's southern tour, his boat passed through Jining, Shandong Province, along the Grand Canal. Empress Xiaoxian, grieving the deaths of her eldest daughter, second son Yonglian, and seventh son Yongcong, was physically and mentally exhausted, and further weakened by the journey, her life hanging by a thread. The imperial physicians were helpless. By chance, they encountered Zhou Maoxian, the second son of the renowned Zhou family's Zhicaotang clinic, a lineage of folk healers. Zhou Maoxian's skillful acupuncture brought her back to life. Emperor Qianlong was overjoyed and immediately bestowed upon Zhou Maoxian the title of fifth-rank imperial physician, ordering him to accompany him back to the capital. However, the Empress ultimately succumbed to her exhaustion and passed away in Dezhou.
After Empress Xiaoxian's death, Consort Xian, of the Ulanara clan, was made the new empress. In his middle age, Emperor Qianlong's life became increasingly decadent, the empress fell out of favor, and the relationship between the emperor and empress grew increasingly distant. Ulanara, originally plump and radiant, sought to regain the emperor's favor, aiming for an effect similar to the lines in the poem "Changmen Fu" ("My soul has wandered and does not return, my body is withered and I live alone"), and obtained a remedy from Zhou Maoxian for weight loss. She was very concerned about her appearance and had strict requirements for health, so this remedy needed to achieve both weight loss and beauty, without harming her health. Based on the principles of meridian medicine, Zhou Maoxian combined traditional Chinese herbs with a black plaster as a carrier, along with magnets to unblock the meridians, creating a timeless remedy for the empress.
Despite her best efforts to lose weight, Ulanara managed to lose weight, but fate intervened, and she still failed to win the emperor's favor, ultimately succumbing to the tragic fate of being deposed. However, the magnetic meridian therapy pioneered by Zhou Maoxian, known as the Zhou Family's Zhicaotang, spread among the people and was widely used in later generations to treat obesity.
Magnet weight loss works by stimulating and opening up acupoints around the navel, thereby activating the flow of Qi and blood, promoting the natural consumption of body fat, and achieving the effects of regulating the stomach and intestines, detoxifying and beautifying the skin, and healthy weight loss.
Here, we need to mention the concept of "Bian magnetite". Bian magnetite is composed of energy stone and maifan stone, which can release a large amount of far-infrared rays and negative ions. When it is scraped on the human body once, it vibrates 4106 times, which is 12 to 20 times that of other tools, and its penetration rate of fat can reach 96.2%.
Bian stone magnets have two powerful effects: First, they have extremely strong penetrating power, reaching directly into the fat and muscle layers to rapidly increase the body's basal metabolic rate. While promoting blood circulation, they effectively activate fat cells and remove fat layers from blood vessel walls. Second, they are magnets refined from various non-renewable minerals and contain very strong positive energy. Five minutes of scraping with them is equivalent to 100 minutes of scraping with other tools. During the scraping process, you will find that the Bian stone becomes lighter and its surface is more prone to corrosion. Why is this? Because it absorbs negative energy from the body and brings in positive energy, balancing the body's pH. Therefore, this tool should be replaced every 3-4 months.
Acupuncture and Meridian Weight Loss
Acupuncture is a treasure of traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine, based on the theory of visceral differentiation, believes that obesity is mainly related to the dysfunction of the liver, spleen, and kidneys. Acupuncture can regulate these organs, restoring their normal function. From a dieting perspective, acupuncture can inhibit gastrointestinal motility and effectively suppress gastric acid secretion, thereby reducing hunger and aiding in weight loss.
In comparison, acupuncture for weight loss is more effective, but it also requires very strict dietary restrictions. Many people report that acupuncture-induced weight loss results in rapid rebound. This is because diet is strictly controlled during acupuncture treatment, but suddenly increasing food intake after the treatment can cause weight regain. Therefore, it is important to gradually resume your normal diet after acupuncture treatment to maintain the results.
In addition, acupuncture for weight loss requires highly skilled acupuncturists; you must go to a professional hospital. Different people react differently to acupuncture; some may experience fainting during treatment, so acupuncture for weight loss should be used with caution.
Moxibustion for weight loss
Moxibustion refers to the application of moxa wool or medicinal substances to acupoints or pain points on the body surface, utilizing the physical and medicinal effects of heat during the fumigation process. Moxibustion is an external natural therapy, and the folk saying "moxibustion can cure chronic ailments" indicates its unexpected effectiveness in treating stubborn diseases.
The mechanism of action of moxibustion: Through the heat effect generated during the burning process, moxibustion stimulates the flow of Qi and regulates the function of the meridians. It then acts on the diseased parts of the five internal organs, six bowels, four limbs and bones, so that they can better exert their overall function of promoting the flow of Qi and blood and harmonizing Yin and Yang.
Moxibustion stimulation involves not only the superficial but also the deep layers. The temperature changes in the subcutaneous and muscle layers differ from those in the epidermis. While the temperature outside the skin at the moxibustion point can rise to around 130℃, the temperature inside the skin peaks at around 56℃. This warm stimulation causes local skin hyperemia, capillary dilation, and accelerated local blood and lymphatic circulation, which helps to quickly relieve and eliminate smooth muscle spasms, enhances the metabolic capacity of local skin tissue, and promotes the dissipation of pathological phenomena such as inflammation, scarring, edema, adhesions, exudates, and hematomas. Simultaneously, moxibustion increases sweat gland secretion, which is beneficial for the excretion of metabolic products and promotes drug absorption. It can also induce the diffusion of cortical inhibition, reducing the excitability of the nervous system and exerting a sedative and analgesic effect.
Although there are many meridian weight loss methods, they vary from person to person. Therefore, you should choose the meridian weight loss method that best suits your physical condition, weight loss goals, and even personality in order to achieve the most ideal results.
