Article 16: Meridian-Based Weight Loss Treatment – Stomach Heat and Dampness Obstruction, Liver and Kidney Deficiency, Liver Qi Stagnation, Yin Deficiency and Internal Heat
Stomach heat and dampness obstruction type
People with obesity due to stomach heat and dampness have a particularly good appetite, but they get hungry again soon after eating. These individuals often enjoy cold drinks, frequently experience a dry throat, constipation, a red and yellow tongue, and a very rapid pulse; they are often teenagers. Our approach to treating this type of obesity involves regulating the Stomach Meridian of Foot Yangming, using acupuncture at Zhaohai, Neiting, Fenglong, and Yinbai acupoints, and applying hunger-inducing acupoints on the ear to control appetite. Reducing food intake is crucial for this type of obesity.
Liver and kidney deficiency type
Obesity due to liver and kidney deficiency is common among middle-aged and elderly individuals. They typically experience weakness and fatigue in the limbs, lower back pain, a red tongue with little coating, and a deep, thready, and rapid pulse. They may also experience dizziness, tinnitus, seminal emission, premature ejaculation, or menstrual irregularities. Furthermore, they may be unable to stand for long periods, even becoming completely unable to walk, with significant muscle loss in the legs and shins. This type of obesity is caused by the decline in the function of the five internal organs, leading to poor metabolism and reduced absorption of food and water, resulting in the accumulation of waste and fat in the body. To improve their physique, these individuals should focus on nourishing the liver and kidneys and delaying aging. Massage along the Spleen Meridian of Foot-Taiyin, Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin, and Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming. Moxibustion and acupressure on acupoints such as Mingmen, Shenshu, Qihai, Guanyuan, Fuliu, and Zusanli can enhance physical fitness and accelerate fat elimination. It is best to eat smaller, more frequent meals and supplement with exercise.
Liver Qi stagnation type
Obesity due to liver qi stagnation is often seen in people under high stress in their lives and work. They tend to be irritable, have bad breath, are prone to overeating, have irregular lifestyles, impaired liver qi, poor blood circulation, insomnia, and localized obesity. For this type of person, weight loss should primarily involve massage or self-tapping of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian and Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. Combining this with acupuncture at points such as Taichong (LR3), Qimen (LR14), Ganshu (BL18), Pishu (BL20), Yanglingquan (GB34), and Hegu (LI4) will yield even faster results.
Yin deficiency with internal heat type
Obese individuals with yin deficiency and internal heat often have insufficient kidney yin, hyperactivity of liver yang, and liver wood overacting on earth, resulting in symptoms such as deficiency in the lower body and excess in the upper body, excessive hunger, and irritability. This is commonly seen in obese patients with hypertension and diabetes.
In addition to the five types of obesity mentioned above, there is also a type of obesity caused by lack of exercise.
People with obesity due to lack of exercise are mostly office workers and those who don't like to exercise. These people don't eat much, but they don't understand why they've become so fat, with obesity mainly appearing in the thighs and abdomen. Because they sit at computers for long periods, they basically don't move around during the day except for eating, drinking, and using the restroom. This reduces blood flow to the thighs and abdomen, slows down muscle detoxification and metabolism, leading to fat accumulation. In severe cases, it can even affect gynecological health in women and urinary problems in men. These individuals can lose weight and regain health by tapping the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang, massaging the abdomen, using fire therapy, or scraping in this area. Additionally, applying pressure to the Chengshan, Feiyang, and Kunlun acupoints can not only promote blood circulation in the legs but also make the limbs firmer.
It is clear that the secret to meridian weight loss lies within ourselves. As long as you find the right meridian weight loss method, you can easily become a slim beauty.
