The benefits of exercise go beyond just losing a few pounds of fat or a few inches of hip circumference; more importantly, exercise changes people's lifestyles.

The following two successful weight loss stories illustrate this point.

Christina's story:

When I was diagnosed with cancer and had to take hormones, my weight once reached 258 pounds.

After I started controlling and eating moderately, I lost 100 pounds in a year.

Another dieter's story is truly amazing.

The following is her own account.

When I was in high school, I was always hungry. I had to eat five to six meals a day to maintain my weight of 97 pounds.

When we got married in 1989, my husband and I were determined to have a child, but I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and it was impossible for me to have children.

The doctor prescribed hormones, and my weight ballooned from 97 pounds to 189 pounds in six months.

We then moved to Germany for further treatment, and my weight once reached 238 pounds, despite being only 5 feet (1.52 meters) tall.

During this time, my physical condition worsened; the excess fat produced more estrogen, and the endometrial cancer progressed more severely.

Eleven experts advised me to have a hysterectomy, but I really want a child.

People have told me time and time again that I can't get pregnant and have children, but I firmly believe that as long as I lose the excess fat, I will definitely be able to have a child of my own.

We moved again, this time to Texas.

A doctor frankly told me that I was too obese and needed to lose weight.

So I joined a support group, where I learned how to control my weight by body part and eat in moderation.

Later, my husband went away on a business trip for six months, and two friends from the group moved in with me, and we spent the whole summer together.

Every time I felt hungry, they would ask me if I was really hungry, which helped me lose 100 pounds in a year.

Later, a good friend took the initiative to teach me how to do strength training.

He taught me the correct training posture and always asked me to "do it one more time".

I started reading fitness magazines, tried various exercise methods, and then developed a training plan: three indoor group cycling exercises a week, and an elliptical trainer every other day.

Through strength training and cardio, I lost another 19 pounds and gained muscle.

I maintained this weight for a year, and then, during a marathon training session, I was surprised to find that I was actually four months pregnant! Even during my pregnancy, I continued to train until my son was born.

I reappeared at the gym shortly afterward.

It was at that time that I decided to quit my accounting job to help others.

I now teach indoor group cycling classes three times a week.

This past fall, I had to have a hysterectomy, but I'm aiming to break the Guinness World Record for indoor stationary cycling in 43 hours, and I also plan to complete the Tour of America cycling race this June.

I lost half my weight

I was a lively and active girl when I was a child, but I suddenly stopped exercising when I was a teenager, and I immediately developed weight problems.

I felt both lonely and depressed during my high school years.

Because I am too fat, I have to wear size 16 clothes.

Back then, girls my age were all very fashionable because of their slender figures. They were all dressed up in a flamboyant way and were very attractive.

While the girls in my class went out on dates with their boyfriends and enjoyed the good life, I locked myself in my room and comforted myself by eating large amounts of food.

By the time I graduated from high school, my weight had ballooned to 81.5 kilograms.

After entering university, I buried myself in my studies and focused my energy on my academic work, while continuing to eat "junk food" that would make me fat, such as fried potato chips and fried chicken, which are high in calories.

When I have nothing to do, I eat all kinds of chocolates and cookies.

I also find all sorts of excuses for myself not to exercise.

Although I once tried to lose weight by eating less, the few kilograms I managed to lose came right back because I only relied on dieting and didn't exercise.

This made me very discouraged.

I think losing weight may forever remain a distant dream for me.

When I turned 29, I discovered that my body was also experiencing a series of problems due to obesity. My knees hurt, I had difficulty breathing, and even climbing just a few steps on an airplane would leave me breathless and very strenuous.

Because of my obesity, I also feel very easily fatigued.

So I had to see a doctor.

I was shocked after the physical examination; my weight had ballooned to 118 kilograms.

Initially, my doctor suggested that I take diet pills to control my weight, but I gave up on the idea when I found that taking diet pills would cause many side effects.

I'm considering a holistic approach to weight loss that involves changing my unhealthy lifestyle habits-that is, making overall adjustments to my lifestyle, diet, exercise, and emotions in order to achieve my weight loss goals.

I devised a series of very strict plans for myself.

I also set a goal: to lose 45 kilograms by my 30th birthday.

I strictly adhere to my weight loss plan every day and never make any excuses for myself.

At the beginning, my goals were small, but realistic and easy to achieve.

I walk on the fitness walker for 15 minutes every day, and after a while, I increased it to 20 minutes.

In addition, I ate a balanced diet, increasing the proportion of vegetables and fruits in my meals, and giving up red meat in favor of chicken or fish.

When purchasing food, pay extra attention to the labels and try to choose health foods that are low in fat, sugar, and salt.

More importantly, I learned to eat only when I feel hungry, completely changing my bad habit of overeating when I was in a bad mood.

I also relieve psychological stress by practicing meditation, Tai Chi, and other methods.

Just like that, I lost 0.5 kg in a week. I felt great and very happy.

After losing 27 kilograms, I added strength training to my exercise plan.

Strength training makes my muscles stronger and keeps my metabolism high, so my body can easily burn more calories.

My weight loss speed has increased dramatically.

As my 30th birthday approached, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had lost a full 50 kilograms, and I jumped for joy.

I have far exceeded my original goal and can now wear more fashionable clothes because my clothing size has decreased from 22 to 8.

More importantly, I became healthier, and my blood pressure and cholesterol levels came to healthy levels.

After that, I worked hard and lost another 9 kilograms.

My weight is now only 59 kilograms, and I have maintained it for two years.

Now, I not only feel very healthy and strong, but my mood has also become very optimistic and positive.

My fitness plan is arranged as follows:

Running: 5 times a week, 8 kilometers each time.

Strength training: 3 times a week, 30 minutes each time.

Static stretching exercises and meditation: 30 minutes daily.
